Description

This is a popular astrophotography target at this time of year, the aptly named Horsehead Nebula (centre) with the nearby Flame Nebula to the bottom left. The bright star to the centre left (named Alnitak) is the easternmost star of Orion’s "belt", so these targets are very close in our skies to the Orion Nebula and at a similar distance (1350-1375 light years)

My rendition was captured across 10-12 Jan 2024, using a Sharpstar 13028HNT telescope, QHY533C camera, Optolong UV-IR filter, and Skywatcher HEQ5 tracking mount, with a total exposure time of 4 hours. Processed with PixInsight 1.8.9
